Methodology

We believe public benchmarks should be auditable. Here is exactly how this dataset was produced and what it does — and doesn't — represent.

Data source

All numbers are aggregated from anonymized PostHog product analytics events — specifically the CONVERSION and POPUP_IMPRESSION events that the Nudgesmart storefront tracker emits when a popup is shown to a shopper and when that shopper completes the popup's primary action (form-submit, wheel-spin-with-email, survey response, or countdown CTA click).

No merchant identifiers (shop domain, shop ID, customer email, order ID) are retained in the published file. Only segment-level counts.

Time window

Rolling 90-day window ending on the regeneration date (May 15, 2026). The dataset is refreshed quarterly (January, April, July, October).

Sample size and minimum thresholds

Any segment with fewer than 100 popup impressions is dropped from the published numbers. This prevents fingerprinting individual small stores and removes the long tail of statistical noise.

What counts as a “conversion”?
  • Email-capture, exit-intent: visitor submits a valid email address (passes the address-shape regex; we don't verify deliverability for this count).
  • Spin-wheel: visitor spins, lands on a prize, and submits the email-capture step that follows.
  • Countdown: visitor clicks the primary CTA while the timer is active.
  • Survey: visitor submits at least one non-skipped question response.

Downstream events (purchase, revenue) are tracked separately and are not part of this public release.

Anonymization & privacy

Industry, popup type, device, and country are the only tags retained. We strip shop identifiers before aggregation. GDPR / CCPA consent gating is enforced upstream by the tracker — events from visitors who decline analytics consent are never persisted and so cannot appear in this report.
