Your sticky bar

Pick one of the three stores above. Whether a sticky bar is worth it, which devices, the button wording, what shoppers see and a live preview of the app’s bar appear here.

The parts of a sticky add to cart bar

A sticky add to cart bar for Shopify is a small bar that slides up at the bottom of a product page once shoppers scroll past the Add to cart button, so a shopper reading reviews on a phone can add the size they picked without scrolling back up, and this tool says whether your store needs one, on which devices and with what wording before you publish the Sticky add to cart widget in the Nudgesmart app.

The devices, the button text limit and the defaults are the ones the Sticky add to cart widget uses in the Nudgesmart app. Every widget layout the app offers is on the store widgets page, and the steps to add the bar to your product page are in the sticky add to cart help article.

A sticky bar is simple to switch on and easy to get slightly wrong. These are the pieces the tool weighs, in the words the app and Shopify use for them.

Sticky bar
A slim bar fixed to the bottom of the screen with the product and an Add to cart button. It appears once the shopper has scrolled past the theme’s own button, and hides again when that button is back on screen.
Theme sticky bar
A sticky bar built into your theme. Horizon, Prestige, Symmetry and Focal ship one, and other themes may have a setting for it. Only one sticky bar should show on a page, so the Nudgesmart bar stays off while the theme’s is there.
Devices
Where the bar shows: Phones only (the default), All devices or Computers only. Phones are where the button scrolls out of reach most.
Main product form
The part of your theme’s product page that holds the options and the Add to cart button. The bar presses that button for the shopper, which is why the option they picked is always the one added, and why the bar stays off on a page without one.
Button text
Optional, up to 40 characters. Leave it empty and the bar uses your theme’s own Add to cart wording, in the shopper’s language.
Sales per visitor
Your store’s sales over a period, spread across the people who visited. It is the fair way to judge a sticky bar, because it counts orders, not taps.

Nudgesmart adds widgets like this one to your store from the theme editor, in your theme’s fonts and colours by default, and is available on the Shopify App Store. See every widget layout or see what it costs.

Five stores and what the tool says for each

Invented stores with typical product pages. Every verdict and flag comes from the same plan the tool above builds.

Worked examples: the product page described, the verdict, the devices, the price setting, and what the tool flags
ScenarioPickedVerdictDevices and priceWhat the tool says
Linen dresses, long pages with reviews and a size guideAnother theme, lots: tabs, reviews, faq, more products below the buttonTurn it on, on phones onlyPhones only, price onNudgesmart does not count the bar’s taps separately. Adds made from the bar go through your theme’s button, so they show in your Shopify reports with the rest.

One candle, short page, mostly computer visitsAnother theme, a short description below the buttonOptional: your button is rarely far awayPhones only, price offMost of your visits come from computers, where the Add to cart button is rarely far away, so expect little difference at first. You can switch Devices to All devices later and judge it the same way.
Supplements, product pages built with a page builderAnother theme, a few sections below the button, page builderCheck your product page firstPhones only, price offNot sure whether your theme has a sticky bar? Open your product page in the theme editor and look for a sticky add to cart or sticky buy button setting. If it is on, the Nudgesmart bar stays off.
Sneakers with a pushy button textAnother theme, a few sections below the button, button text: Add to cart now and get free shipping todayTurn it on, on phones onlyPhones only, price offThe button text is 43 characters. The app takes 40; keep it to two or three words, or leave it empty to use your theme’s own wording. Keep the button a plain action, such as Add to cart or Add to bag. Words like now, today or hurry make it shout, and the bar already appears at the moment the shopper is reading.
The Prestige row is the commonest surprise: the theme already ships a bar, so a second one would stay off. The page builder row is the other one to check before you publish.

What the plan cannot see

It cannot see your theme settings

The plan knows which themes ship a sticky bar, not whether yours is switched on. The theme editor is the final word, and the Nudgesmart app warns you when it spots one.

More taps are not more sales

A sticky bar can get more people to tap Add to cart, but some of them would have scrolled up and added the product anyway, and some never check out. Judge it on sales per visitor, before and after.

Page builders vary

Pages built with a page builder app may not have the theme’s normal product form, and then the bar stays off. The plan can only flag the risk; checking a real product page settles it.

One bar covers every product page

The widget shows on every product page it is placed on, with the same devices and wording. Plan for the pages that sell most, and check a short page and a long one.

Sticky add to cart questions

How do I add a sticky add to cart button to Shopify?

In the Nudgesmart app, create a Sticky add to cart widget, choose the devices and publish it. Add to store then opens the Shopify theme editor on your product page with the block already added; choose your bar in its Widget setting and save. It works on product pages only.

Does my theme already have a sticky add to cart bar?

Horizon, Prestige, Symmetry and Focal ship one, and other themes may have a setting for it in the theme editor. If yours is on, the Nudgesmart bar stays off, so keep one or the other.

Will it add the wrong size or colour?

No. The bar has no picker of its own. It presses your theme’s own Add to cart button, so the option the shopper picked on the page is the one added, and your cart drawer, subscriptions and quantity work as usual.

Should it show on desktop too?

Start on phones only, the default. On a computer the theme’s button is rarely far away. You can switch to all devices later and judge it the same way.

Should the bar show the price?

Off is the default, because your theme already shows the price next to its own button. On long pages, where shoppers are far below the price when the bar appears, turning it on helps.

Will a sticky bar increase my sales?

It can make adding easier, but more taps on Add to cart do not always mean more orders. Compare your sales per visitor in Shopify’s analytics for a few weeks before and after you publish it. Nudgesmart does not count the bar’s taps separately.

Get started

On a phone, the Add to cart button is gone after one swipe.

Nudgesmart’s sticky bar presses your theme’s own Add to cart button, so the option a shopper picked is the one added, and it stays off when your theme has its own.
