Spin wheel generator for Shopify

Last updated

Step 1 of 2 · choose a game

Pick a design and it opens as a working game you can play, on the real storefront code. Slices, odds, colours and prizes are edits to it from there.

What each slice carries

A spin wheel generator builds a spin-to-win popup from slices you set yourself, each with a label, a colour, a prize and a whole-number chance out of 100, so a slice with a chance of 20 is where the wheel stops about 20 times in every 100 spins.

The games are templates from the Nudgesmart library, rendered by the same storefront code a merchant ships, and a wheel only renders when its chances add up to exactly 100, the same rule that code enforces. No figure on this page is a measurement of any store.

Every slice is four decisions: what it says, what it looks like, what it gives away and how often it comes up. The last two are the ones that cost money.

Slice label
The words printed on the wedge, and the prize name the result screen repeats. Kept short on purpose: at a phone size a wedge holds a few words, and a label that wraps or clips reads as a broken wheel.
Chance
A whole number from 0 to 100: how many times in every 100 spins the wheel stops on that slice. All the chances on a wheel must total exactly 100, and the counter beside the slices shows how far off you are while you edit.
Prize
What the slice gives: a percent off, an amount off or a gift, free shipping, or nothing. A slice with no prize is a losing slice, and the wheel shows its lose screen when it stops there.
Slice colour
Left alone, a slice keeps the colour the template gives that position, and that colour follows your brand colour. Pick one yourself and it lands exactly as picked, with the label switched to white or near-black, whichever reads better on it.
Brand colour
One hex value that moves the accent colours of the whole design: the button, the hub, the rim and any slice you have not coloured yourself. Paper, ink and photography stay as the template designed them.
Discount cost per 100 plays
Roughly what 100 spins hand out if every winning code is used. Percent prizes need your average order value to become money; free shipping and gifts need what they cost you. Leave any of those blank and the figure says which part is missing rather than guessing it.

The three preset wheels, costed

Illustrative store numbers, not customer data: a 60.00 average order, free shipping that costs the store 8.00 and a gift that costs 10.00. Every figure below comes from the same function the generator above runs, so the two cannot disagree.

The mystery gift wheel gives something on every spin, so it costs the most per 100 spins even though its single biggest prize is the same 15 percent as the classic wheel. How often a prize comes up moves the cost more than how big the prize is.

What the odds table cannot promise

A chance is a long-run rate, not a schedule

A slice set to 5 in 100 can come up three spins in a row and then not again for two hundred. Over a few dozen spins the real mix can sit well away from the table. The table is what the wheel converges to, not what it does on a given afternoon.

The cost assumes every winner shops

The discount figure counts every winning code as used, on an order of your average size. In practice many are never redeemed and the ones that are can sit on bigger or smaller baskets. Use it to compare one wheel with another, not as a budget line.

Revenue given away is not profit lost

A 10 percent code on a 60.00 order hands back 6.00 of revenue. What that does to profit depends on your margin, and on whether the shopper would have bought at full price anyway, which no spin wheel can tell you.

The scratch card and pick-a-present keep their own prizes

The odds editor here is for the wheel. The scratch card and pick-a-present previews take your brand colour and headline, but play with the prizes and odds their templates ship with.

It is a preview on one phone viewport

Nothing on this page is installed on a store, and the frame is a 390 by 844 phone viewport. The desktop layout is different, and who sees the game, when and how often are decisions this page does not make.

Spin wheel questions

How do spin wheel odds work?

Each slice carries a whole-number chance out of 100, and that chance is how often the wheel stops there over many spins. A slice set to 5 comes up about 5 times in every 100 spins, whatever it looks like. The wedges are drawn the same size whatever their chance, so a shopper cannot read the odds off the wheel, which is why the table beside the preview spells them out.

Do the slice chances have to add up to 100?

Yes, exactly 100, and in whole numbers. The storefront engine that draws the wheel refuses to draw one whose chances total anything else, so the generator will not render your wheel until the counter reads 100. A slice can be set to 0 if you want it on the wheel but never landed on.

Does this spin wheel work on Shopify?

The preview is the same storefront code Nudgesmart runs on a Shopify store, which is why the wheel actually spins and the scratch card actually scratches. This page itself installs nothing. The spin wheel, the scratch card and pick-a-present are campaign types in the Nudgesmart app, and each preset here starts from one of its ready-made templates.

Are the discount codes in the preview real?

No. The code on the result screen is a sample made up in your browser, and nothing is created in any store or sent anywhere. In the Nudgesmart app, the codes a game hands out are reported as displayed, copied and redeemed, so you can see which prizes shoppers actually use.

What does the discount cost per 100 plays mean?

It is roughly what 100 spins give away if every winning code is used on an average-sized order. The classic preset, with a 60.00 average order and free shipping that costs you 8.00, gives away about 335.00 across 100 spins, and about 5.15 for each spin that wins. Plenty of winning codes are never used, so read it as a planning figure rather than a forecast.

How many slices should a spin wheel have?

This generator allows between 2 and 12. More slices make the wheel look more generous, but each label gets less room on a phone, and a label that does not fit is a prize nobody can read. The presets here use five or six, with the chances doing the real work rather than the slice count.
